Matrix/catalogue # variant : Has different cat #'s as follows: Matrices: Side 1: TRAIN 9 1 // 1 * EAZM 1 1 2
and Side 2: TRAIN 9 2 // 1 * EAZM 1 1 2
When Rocket Records prepared the album for its late-1979 release, early pre-release promos and test runs were stamped with the matrix codes
TRAIN 9 1 // 1 * EAZM 1 1 2. Before the commercial presses rolled, the label entirely scrapped this format, assigning the standard commercial UK catalogue numberHISPD 125instead. Only a handful of these originalTRAIN 9stampers ever made it out of the plant.Regarding the LP cover and why it is different to the commercial copy:
This is an in-house proofing copy
To guide the final cover art layout, factory test pressings were paired with an original 12" x 12" high-gloss master photograph of Elton John. These loose photo prints were meant for internal office review and were completely excluded from the retail run
