Original Stereo 1st issue contract Philips pressing disc and cover

Unusual type cover !  (see below)

Matrix #: SBPG62429 1Y // 1 * 420 11  1  and  SBPG62429 2Y // 1 * 420 1

Disc:  Fabulous !  EX+   super shiny

Label: textured 'rough' paper label with indent entirely within the centre logo and 'O/ T1'  tax code** embossed on side 2 label within logo box   very light small blemish on label 2   minor spindle marks

** please note this was only used by Philips company as an embossed label and also it refers to the current rate of Purchase Tax due to HMG. T for tax and prefix letter=current applicable rate and also note that this code was changed to a Z in April 1962 (then a P-Nov 62 then a M-Jan 63 then a K-July 63 !!-there-now you know !) but this does NOT mean the disc originates from that period as the tax codes stampers were often left unchanged by the production staff at the pressing plants as we have example of 'M' tax code (changed in July 63) being found on Beatles records from 1966 !)

There appears to be no other examples of Dylan records with a tax code other than those pressed by Philips and EMI-if you know of any let me know-EMI contract pressings had a K T on the label of LP and single releases (The times they are a-changin 7"-for example)

bold type song titles

large SPBG

'Recording first published 1964'

Matrix #'s (small) on label: SBPG62429 1Y  and  SBPG62429 2Y   1 refers to side 1 and Y to stereo  (L for mono) etc

Cover: front laminated cover-small corner crease-bottom left and small lamination crease-top right-cover is in great condition with nice shiny lamination and EX+ spine with boxed stereo with arrows right hand corner front

Superb cover-not likely to see another this good

Back: Super clean-never seen one this good ever with boxed stereo with arrows left corner  Lamination just overlaps on to the back (3 sides) by a few millimetres

Boxed track listing

UK catalogue # with US # underneath

with unusual back slick pasted over flaps (possibly text was being revised or unavailable when the covers were printed as there appears to be nothing underneath the slick-please note this construction is different to the slightly later 'internal flaps' cover construction where the back cover is board and not a paper slick.

I think it is possible that blank backs were provided because there was an issue with the original text either being incorrect or unavailable and that the slicks were pasted over at the last minute. Who knows ? As far as we know this is the only Dylan release like this but when other contemporary CBS releases are available (Andy Williams-Johnny Cash etc) we will investigate their construction to see if other CBS releases from this period are similar to this. Watch this space as any update will be posted here !

Spine: almost immaculate !! incredible condition with a very very minute blemish (tiny wrinkle) just below top  and very tiny blemish on 'A' and 'H' of Another. Lettering strays slightly on to the front cover with cat.# almost there !  (see other listings for this oddity-Bringing.. for example but also JWH)
